Day Tour from Merzouga to Erg Chebbi Dunes

Day Tour from Merzouga to Erg Chebbi Dunes

Your excursion will start in the morning after breakfast from your hotel in Merzouga. We will first travel through the sand-sea dunes near the Algerian border where you will have a chance to take photos and see the black volcanic rocks. We will also have the opportunity to meet a nomad family and learn about their nomadic lifestyle. We will pass close to tiny Berber villages, like Tamrdanite, before we reach Khamlia. In the tiny desert village of Khamlia, we will be treated to a performance of Gnawa music, a spiritual and hypnotic form of music that has been played for centuries by the black people who live here. Gnawa music is internationally recognized and is said to have healing properties. On our way back to the hotel, you will be enchanted with the view of the lake at Ait Sareji, especially In springtime, when it attracts pink flamingos and many other birds. We will deliver you back to your hotel in the late afternoon around 16:00.

Totally exceeded our expectations!
The best way to know Morocco! The drivers and guide (and even Mohammed) were flexible and went out of their way to please us and show us their beautiful country, culture and history. It felt as if we were travelling with family. The hotels (mainly Riads) were fantastic, and the Dunes Luxury Camp in the Sahara desert was a major "wow". Morocco is much more beautiful and fascinating that expected, and the itinerary they prepared for us (9 days) was superb.

Tour Morocco like a Visitor instead of a tourist
Mohammed worked with my friend and me to plan a 14-day driving tour through Morocco, which was tailored to our interests in culture, photography, nature, crafts, and the intersection of Jewish history with Berber culture. We visited during late February and early March 2019, and had lovely weather. Our journey exceeded our expectations. Our guide for our entire trip was Hamid, a cousin of Mohammed. He was very knowledgable, spirited, and attentive to our interests and needs. We traveled in a very comfortable Toyota Land Cruiser with A/C, and had separate drivers during most of the trip. We were treated like special family guests and welcomed into Hamid's home for a cooking lesson by his wife. We also met Mohammed and other family members, who offered us the gift of tea and family hospitality and shared knowledge about Berber culture and the history and beauty of the Sahara desert and Morocco. Our trip included stays in Chefchaouen, Fes, the Sahara Desert, Dades, Ourzazate, Essoaoira, and Marrakech. We stayed in comfortable riads in different cities. Hassan was our excellent tour guide in Fes, He had impressive depth and breath of knowledge about the city's history and culture. The highlight of our trip was a 3-day and night stay at the Dunes Luxury Camp. We had a beautiful sunset camel ride, and enjoyed the splendor of hikes in the desert at sunrise and sunset each day. We were entertained with Berber music and drumming in the evening. The food at the desert camp was delicious. We ended our trip with a luxurious hammam spa experience at our riad in Marrakech. My friend and I felt that this personalized travel adventure offered us a wonderful opportunity to experience Morocco as valued guests and visitors, rather than tourists. I enthusiastically recommend the services of Trips to Morocco for all or part of a visit to the country.
